Martin Paul Lonergan – Chief Operations Officer
Wrongfully detained in Dubai for 9-months during the COVID pandemic and subject to inhumane conditions and torture. Losing 35 kilos in body weight and being denied food for large parts of his stay by the prison management, Martin had the body of a concentration camp victim when he landed in Ireland in December 2020. Inmates suffered and died from COVID in the cells alongside Martin, with one body remaining there for 18 hours. Martin remained in his cell for months without ever seeing sunlight or fresh air.
Martin is a writer and has joined Detained International and supports our cause with his time and pen. Personally, experiencing the injustices and atrocities, Martin has taken up the cause of the men left behind and sentenced to die in Dubai’s jail.
The writer, born May 1963, has had a colourful and interesting life. And fortunate to have lived in and travelled through many places in the last twenty-five years. Having spent barely a handful of days in the last fifteen years in the UK. Those places include Sierra Leone, Senegal, Cape Town, Moscow, Mauritania, Monaco, Lugano, Puerto Banus, Miami, Paris, Brussels, Gibraltar, Edinburgh, Majorca, Sydney, Wellington, Auckland, Villars-sur-Ollon, Tokyo, Shanghai and in no particular order.
Most of these were not flying visits but periods of habitation. The short stay’s too numerous to mention all. And include India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, South America and most of Eastern Europe. When Big Foot writes, he writes with first-hand knowledge of a place, its people and the culture.
Martin – an accomplished and internationally experienced CEO and Business Leader from a trading background with a demonstrable record of achievement building successful enterprises. A very resourceful, customer-focused and financially astute individual, offering 360-degree management
